| SUMMARY AND EXPLANATION OF TEST: |
Thyroglobulin (Tg) is a protein synthesized in thyroid gland cells and is the main component of the colloid contained in the thyroid follicles. Tg plays an important role in the synthesis and preservation of thyroid hormones. Anti-thyroid antibodies, especially anti-microsomal antibodies and anti-thyroglobulin antibodies (TgAb) have been observed to be relevant to autoimmune thyroid diseases such as Graves' disease and Hashimoto's disease. |
