PRODUCT NAME: | 25-OH Vitamin D IR Elisa |
INTENDED USE: | 25-OH Vitamin D IR ELISA is an ELISA based test system intended for the quantitative measurement of total concentration of 25-OH-Vitamin D2 and 25-OH-Vitamin D3 in human serum or plasma samples (EDTA plasma, heparin plasma, citrate plasma). |
PRODUCT OVERVIEW: | Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is produced in the skin under irradiation with UV-B rays from the sun. It is metabolized to 25-OH vitamin D3 in the liver. Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) is mostly produced synthetically and is used as a dietary supplement. It is also converted to its corresponding 25-OH derivative by the liver. Vitamin D regulates calcium levels in the blood and thus supports bone mineralization. Vitamin D deficiency leads to rickets in children and osteomalacia (bone softening) in adults. In people aged over 50 years, vitamin D levels are directly associated with bone density and a lack of vitamin D is a risk factor for osteoporosis. |
